Appointed as Shogun by the Emperor, he established a government in Edo, now Tokyo, that ruled Japan for the next 250 years. The Edo Period in Japan, 1603-1867, began when Tokugawa defeated Hideyori and his rivals. The Japanese Edo Period is also the beginning of modernizing and that concept applies to the fine furniture featured here. Darker in tone, this mahogany finish is a radiant accent.
